During the Yuan Dynasty, the ditch was abandoned and reached Beijing. It has a history of more than 2,500 years. In 2002, the Grand Canal was incorporated into the eastern route of the South-to-North Water Diversion project. On June 22, 2014, the 38th session of the World Heritage Assembly announced that the Grand Canal Project of China was successfully selected into the World Cultural Heritage List, becoming the 46th World Heritage project in China.
